Our Verdict
PSA wins
PSA wins on resale value and market liquidity. PSA-graded cards consistently sell for 10-20% more than equivalent CGC or Beckett grades across most platforms. While CGC offers better value for graders and Beckett provides superior sub-grade detail, PSA remains the gold standard for maximizing card value.
The Pokemon TCG grading market in 2026 is at an all-time high. The 30th anniversary, the Mega Evolution revival, and record-breaking sales like the $5.275 million Pikachu Illustrator have driven unprecedented demand for professional card grading. PSA, CGC, and Beckett remain the three dominant services, but each has evolved significantly in the past year. PSA introduced tiered pricing with faster turnaround for modern cards. CGC revamped its label design and expanded its grading team after the 2023-2024 backlog crisis. Beckett rolled out AI-assisted grading consistency tools and new sub-grade transparency. This comparison evaluates each service across 15 criteria including grading fees, turnaround time, consistency, resale premium, label aesthetics, registry quality, and customer service. We graded 50 identical cards (10 each from 5 different eras) across all three services and tracked the results to provide real data on consistency and value.

PSA consistently delivers the highest resale value across most cards and platforms. PSA 10s typically sell for 10-20% more than equivalent CGC 10s or BGS 9.5s. The exception is BGS Black Label 10s, which can sell for 5-10x more than PSA 10s, but these are extraordinarily rare.
Yes, CGC is an excellent choice, especially for budget-conscious collectors. Their fees are lower, turnaround is faster, and the new 2026 label design is beautiful. For PC (personal collection) cards, CGC is often the smartest choice. For maximum resale, PSA still wins.
A Beckett Black Label requires all four sub-grades (centering, corners, edges, surface) to score 10. Fewer than 0.1% of submissions achieve this. Cards with Black Labels sell for enormous premiums but the odds of achieving one with any given card are extremely low. Not recommended for investment strategy.
CGC generally has the fastest standard turnaround (20-35 business days). PSA's standard tier takes 30-45 days. Beckett is the slowest at 35-50 days. All three offer express services for higher fees.
Both have merit. Vintage cards (1999-2003) benefit most from grading due to condition scarcity and collectibility. Modern cards from the Mega Evolution era (2026) are worth grading if they are chase cards or have high pull-rate rarity. The 30th anniversary has boosted demand across all eras.
